Pursuing B.Sc has gained importance amongst many youngsters. Candidates choose the stream which interests them the most. This is important as their career is decided on the basis of this. It is a must to have completed graduation especially for those interested in specialization in a specific area. Quite a few students do opt for B.Sc course. Candidates need to choose the area of specialization amongst the various options. They can choose from options like B.Sc in Biology, B.Sc in Physics, B.Sc in Biotechnology etc. Each course is designed to suit the candidates requirements. Eligibility Criteria for the B.Sc course The candidates need to suffice certain criteria’s in order to be eligible for the course. The academic qualifications required are as follows: · Clearing higher secondary education or equivalent is a must · Diploma holders too can apply · Must have pursued science subjects during the higher secondary level · Must have secured the minimum marks required as per the institutes cut-offs Other than the academic requirement the candidate needs to be at least 18 years old and also should not be over 23 years old. Admission Procedure for the B.Sc course Normally there are no entrance exams for admission to the B.Sc course. Some of the few institutes which do conduct exams include BHU, AIIMS for nursing course etc. The application forms will be available normally in the month of June and July. The candidates must ensure that they submit all the required document copies like the mark sheet, domicile certificate, school leaving certificate etc. Course Structure for the B.Sc course The course structure is similar to the other graduation courses. The course duration is for three years. There will be two semesters in each year. There will be some common subjects including English and Mathematics in most of the specializations. Course Aspects for the B.Sc course The course will begin with the basic concept level and then move on to the higher level. Students who learn the course thoroughly will find it beneficial in the later stage. This is especially since they will have a sound conceptual knowledge. Career Opportunities for the B.Sc course On completion of the B.Sc course the candidates need to choose the best job profile that suits them. They have the option to choose amongst the private sector jobs and the public sector jobs. In the private sector they can opt to work in research laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, technical consultancies etc. In the Government sector they can apply for Civil Service exams, Banks Probationary Officer Exams, PSC, SET exam etc. >> Difference between BSc (Hons) and Bsc (General) The Bsc (Hons) is a three years degree program which aims at developing advanced theoretical and research skills and provide a platform for an advanced professional or academic career. This is a most desired route for students who want to continue to Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a research or academic career. Through this program, students are provided with the opportunity to pursue an independent research project in an area of interest under the supervision of an academic staff member. This program aims at providing students with advanced research skills in an area of contemporary science that will enhance their employability across a broad range of careers. A Bachelor of Science (general) is also a three year undergraduate academic degree which is basically designed to provide the students with foundation knowledge possible for a science based career and to equip them to engage in global issues. This program opens up a large range of career possibilities. Bachelor of Science graduates find employment opportunities in many areas like business, teaching, marketing, research, etc. Some other career positions that a BSc degree holder gets are-chemists, nurses, biologists, psychologists, teachers, lawyers, etc. Through this program, diverse education is provided in more than one branch of study. This program enhances student’s technical knowledge and problem solving skills. This degree provides students with scientific education that stimulates curiosity and promotes a questioning approach which encourages the development of teamwork and communication skills. The major differences between these two degrees are- • BSc (Hons) is much more superior to the BSc (general) degree. • Academically, BSc (Hons) is a more standard degree as compared to BSc (general). • For the completion of BSc (Hons) degree, a student will have to write a dissertation but for a BSc (general) degree, this is not mandatory. |
